One comment that you probably have heard about college is that it is a time for you to "find yourself." Of course, this statement assumes that you are somehow "lost," which is not generally the case for mos t people. A more accurate description of your college experience is that it is a time of discovery. This "discovery experience" operates on many levels. You discover new things about the world around you, you learn about new ways of thinking, and you immerse yourself in a wide variety of experiences that prepare you for later life challenges and opportunities. Not a bad way to spend a few years of your life, is it?
An introductory psychology course can provide you with some important information to aid you in this discovery process. The subject matter of psychology is the "study of the mind." As such, introductory psychology offers you the hope that course material will help you better understand not only other people, but also yourself.
